The Lounge

At the top of the stone flagged staircase is the galleried lounge.  The ceilings are high with exposed roof trusses and chandeliers.  A silk sofa and two Edwardian salon chairs are provided for your comfort.  There is a pedestal mahogany desk, CD mini hi-fi and leather reclining chair.  The desk houses a comprehensive information folder, games, maps and books.   The bespoke galleried balustrade, of wrought iron and reclaimed oak, frames the oak faced wall of the kitchen.  With a stripped wood floor, ash window seat and stone shelf arch this is truly a spectacular room in which to wile away your evenings.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is equipped to the highest standards with a huge range style stove, Belfast sink and stripped pine furniture.  The floor has been laid in a French country style using Spanish hand made terracotta tiles inlaid with dark pine.  The stripped pine table and elm kitchen chairs provide the perfect dining place.  As in the lounge, the ceilings are high, with the roof trusses exposed, lit by a single wrought iron chandelier.

You will find, upon arrival, complimentary wine and “first morning” breakfast foods.  We also supply some tea, coffee and sugar to allow you to unwind after your journey.  You will find homemade bread and biscuits for a snack, along with fresh milk and free range eggs from the local farm.  There are several dry goods including salt, pepper and herbs.  Bin bags, cling film, kitchen roll and tin foil can be found in the bespoke pine kitchen cupboards.

A door from the kitchen leads into the pantry.

The Pantry

With a solid wood floor, exposed beams and witches stools, the pantry accommodates the fridge, freezer, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher.  Here you will also find a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, airer, cleaning utensils and washing basket.

The Bedrooms

All of the bedrooms have been named in recognition of their 18th century origins.  All have double beds, en-suite bathrooms, colour televisions and stripped pine floors.  Your beds will be made up before your arrival with freshly laundered linen, duvets and patchwork quilts.  All white cotton bed linen, bath, hand and tea towels are included within our prices.

The Decking

The outside decking area is accessed from either the kitchen or the Lounge.  It is surrounded by the garden, which is dominated by an amazing limestone backdrop.  Soon to be completed, the terraced garden will lead up onto the Monsal trail.

The Dairy has the largest bathroom and is fitted with two sinks, a full sized walk-in shower cubicle, a freestanding Edwardian slipper bath, with chrome feet and hand held shower; plus a toilet.  An easy chair is provided for your convenience.  This bathroom is furnished in stripped pine.  It has two windows and a view over the River Wye and to the hill beyond.

The Stables bathroom boasts a Victorian freestanding bath; with chrome feet and hand held shower; with a matching suite of wash basin and toilet.  It is furnished in complimentary mahogany furniture including an antique marble washstand.

The Hayloft

Exposed roof trusses, aged lintels and the original limestone walls combine together to give this room its appeal.  This, the largest of the three double bedrooms, is a tranquil retreat.  Furnished in honey pine and oak it contains a day bed piled with cushions and an iron double bedstead. This day-bed transforms into a full sized single bed, enabling The Stables to become a twin/family room.

Two wrought iron antiqued chandeliers grace the ceiling, illuminating the beams to their best effect.  With a view of the River Wye and the hills beyond, there is no finer place for breakfast in bed.

The Stables

The Stables is a well proportioned double bedroom with exposed beams and lintels which add to the overall traditional effect.  It is furnished with mahogany and wrought ironwork complimented by a colour scheme of soft lilacs and dusty blue.  Combined with original oil paintings of the surrounding countryside, by a local artist, this room is a serene and peaceful haven.

The Dairy

The Dairy is a spacious double bedroom which boasts an enormous bathroom. It is decorated in a crisp cream with wrought iron and stripped pine; coupled with the exposed beams it creates a stunning effect.  Adding to the clean lines of this dramatic room is a bold navy print contrasting beautifully with the white bed linen and cream decor.  The overall co-ordinated look is softened by the white lace at the windows and the plump cushions scattered on the double and the single day-bed.  This day-bed transforms into a full sized single bed, enabling The Dairy to become a twin/family room.

The Entrance Hall

As you enter The Barn the first things you may notice are the wealth of original timbers which contrast with the soft cream of the walls and the natural stone flagging of the floor.  The hallway is home to a monk’s bench on which you will find tourist information and our guest book.  We have supplied an umbrella, walking stick and torch should you wish to borrow them during your stay.  Leading from the entrance hall are The Dairy, The Stables and the wide stone stairs to the second floor.
