By Road...

The
M1 J29 north or southbound is handily placed for easy access into the Peak District, heading west into the National Park via Chesterfield.  The M6 J17 north or southbound, exiting towards Congleton before heading east, onto Buxton, is also a good access road.

Travelling from the
North West, Manchester or the M6 J17 should be your first target, then Chapel en le Frith or Congleton.

Coming from the North East, Chesterfield M1 J29 is the place to head for.

If coming from the
South East, head for Derby via the M1 then exit at Chesterfield J29.

If arriving from the South West you should be looking for Congleton M6 J17.

Travelling from the North or South via the M1

Leave the M1 Motorway at junction 29 for Chesterfield and take the A619 to Baslow; go through Baslow on the A623 to Calver.  Continue straight through the traffic lights to Stoney Middleton and stay on this road for approximately three miles until you see a left turn to Litton.  Follow the road through Litton until you come to a T junction.  Turn left onto the B6049 towards Millers Dale.  Follow the road for approximately 2 miles and you will drop down into Millers Dale. Staying on the B6049, drive under the bridges, with the river on your left.  You will see Milne House on your right hand side directly opposite “Craft Supplies”.

Travelling from the North or South via the M6

Leave the M6 motorway at Junction J17 to Congleton on the A534. Leave Congleton by the A54 and head to Buxton.  Take the A6 south out of Buxton towards Bakewell and Matlock. After approximately 5 miles you should be looking for a left turn signposted “Tideswell and Millers Dale” (B6049).  Follow B6049 down into the valley.  At the bottom of the hill, as you come to go over the river, you will arrive in Millers Dale.  Milne House is on the left directly opposite “Craft Supplies”.

By Rail…..

The main railway stations that serve the Peak District are Buxton, Matlock, Chesterfield and Hope.  The best station for accessibility to Millers Dale is Buxton and a 15 minute taxi ride from the station.  Alternatively a train to Chesterfield and a bus to Millers Dale would take about 45 minutes.  The trans peak bus runs from Matlock to Buxton and passes within a mile of Millers Dale.  If you should choose to travel by bus or rail then please call us 01298 872338 and we will endeavour to assist you in finding the easiest route from your home.

In addition
www.thetrainline.com offers an excellent service of timetables and route planning.

By Air...

Manchester airport

If you're intending on flying into England and hope to visit the Peak District, Manchester is the best choice of arrival airports as it lies close to the north-western edge of the National Park.
A rail link from Manchester airport into the Peak village of Hope (en route to Sheffield) is probably the least stressful way of getting here, although trains that stop here are infrequent, maybe necessitating an overnight stay in Manchester.  If notice is given we may be able to arrange for a taxi to meet you at Hope station.  Other rail routes from Manchester Airport into the Peak District include a more regular service into Buxton.

Once here in the UK, the national rail timetable can be checked by calling 08457484950.

The National Park lies immediately on the eastern borders of Greater Manchester County, and is accessible by train or car within 20 minutes from the city centre, and several scheduled public buses go directly into the park 2 or 3 times an hour. Trains from Manchester Piccadilly run regularly every day to Buxton, Matlock, Glossop and Whaley Bridge.

Hiring a car at Manchester is obviously easy enough but finding your way to the Peak District, although close by, will present other challenges.  Head for nearby Stockport (M56), pick up the Buxton road out of Stockport and breathe a sigh of relief.  In case you didn't know, Buxton is in the Peak District...!
